Introduction


The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a skilled and experienced journey-level
ELECTRICIAN
to maintain the electrical and control system for the Parks and Recreation Department.

General Description

The Electrician with the Parks and Recreation Department maintains electrical equipment and control systems for the Parks and Recreation Department facilities.  Performs limited electrical construction projects and modifications to existing electrical systems

Essential Functions

Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees and may temporarily act in a higher capacity.

Maintains electrical system for Parks and Recreation facilities by evaluating problems, establishing plans for repairs or replacement, and troubleshooting and repairing equipment or systems as required.

Handles preventive maintenance by analyzing, testing and repairing equipment before failure.  Identifies and proposes solutions to resolve electrical system issues.

Performs construction work by installing new equipment, modifying existing equipment, removing obsolete and defective apparatus and wiring, and installing protective devices.

Designs, documents, and constructs electrical circuitry.  Produces documentation of electrical drawing/diagram changes for archival and future references.

Completes requisitions, develops and implements new procedures, directs work with outside contractors, submits work requests, monitors work in progress, and approves work upon completion.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 month post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 4 years maintaining electrical equipment and control systems, at the skilled journey level

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be considered.

Special Job Requirements

Some positions may require Certification to Service and Maintain Compactor Equipment and/or Commercial Contractor Examination for Electrical (commercial) L-11.

Positions at the Department of Transportation require a Class B CDL.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: the week of July 17, 2023
Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on a Civil Service Eligibility List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Services Eligibility List will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 20% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 80% of your oral board interview
Selection interviews may be conducted post Civil Service Eligibility List by the Hiring Manager.

This recruitment will establish a Civil Service Eligibility List that will be utilized to fill vacancies within Parks and Recreation occurring within the next 6 months.

Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Eligibility List. If you qualify for preference points ad outlined in the Employment Profile, you must present your documentation at the Oral Board interviews. The DD214 must be a copy that indicates the characterization of service.

50 Lb Lift Test. If P&R then, 75Lb Lift Test

If in DOT, then also: CDL Physical and NIDA Drug Test

If on A-Team, then also: Asbestos Physical
